Desert Safari Dubai FAQ

Clear answers to the questions first-time guests ask most — booking and pricing, timing and pickup, what happens on the night, safety, and what to do when the weather or the calendar changes your plans.

01 — Booking

Booking and pricing

How reservations work, what the price covers, and what costs extra.

How do I book a desert safari?

Choose a package from the price list, then confirm your date, hotel or address, and group size by WhatsApp or the booking form. You will receive a confirmation with your pickup window once the booking is accepted.

How far in advance should I book?

Booking a few days ahead is usually enough, but from November to March popular evening slots fill up faster, so earlier is safer. Last-minute requests are sometimes possible, so it is worth asking.

What is included in the price?

Standard packages include hotel pickup and drop-off, dune bashing, camp entry, and the BBQ buffet dinner with live shows. Check the specific package page for exact inclusions.

What costs extra?

Quad biking, dune buggies, private table upgrades, and some drinks are usually priced separately. Ask for the add-on list when you book so there are no surprises on the day.

Is there a difference between shared and private safaris?

Yes. A shared safari places you in a 4×4 with other guests, while a private safari gives your group its own vehicle and driver. The core route through the dunes is the same.

What is the cancellation or rescheduling policy?

Policies depend on the package and how close the trip is. Confirm the terms before paying a deposit, and message us as early as you can if your plans change.

02 — Timing

Timing and pickup

When safaris run, how long they take, and how pickup works.

How long does a desert safari last?

An evening safari runs about 6 hours door to door, including pickup, dune bashing, camp activities, dinner, and drop-off. Morning safaris are shorter, usually 3–4 hours.

What is the best time of year to go?

November to March has the most comfortable daytime temperatures. Safaris also run from April to October, when evening departures are the more comfortable option.

Should I choose a morning or an evening safari?

First-timers usually prefer the evening safari because it combines dune bashing, sunset photos, dinner, and shows in one trip. A morning safari is shorter and cheaper, with no dinner or camp show.

How long is the drive from Dubai to the desert?

Roughly 45–60 minutes from most central Dubai locations to the Lahbab desert conservation area, depending on traffic and where you are staying.

How does pickup work?

A 4×4 collects you from your hotel lobby or a nearby landmark. Pickup windows are about an hour wide because the vehicle collects other guests along the same route.

What time will I be dropped back?

Evening safaris generally finish between 9:30 and 10:30 PM, depending on how far your accommodation is from the camp.

03 — Experience

What happens on the safari

Dune bashing, camp activities, food, and entertainment.

What is dune bashing?

Dune bashing is driving a 4×4 over dune crests and slopes. It typically lasts 30–45 minutes, with tyres deflated beforehand for grip and a driver trained specifically for desert terrain.

What activities are available at the camp?

Camps typically offer henna painting, shisha, a camel photo stop, falconry displays, and traditional dress for photos in the time before dinner.

Is sandboarding included?

Sandboarding is usually offered at the photo stop on the high dune. Check the package page to confirm whether it is included or an add-on.

What food is served?

A BBQ buffet with grilled meats, salads, and vegetarian options. If you have dietary requirements, mention them when booking so the camp can prepare.

What shows are there in the evening?

A Tanoura show and a fire performance are typically presented on the main stage during dinner. Exact entertainment can vary by camp and season.

Can I bring my own food or drinks?

Outside food is generally not needed since dinner and soft drinks are provided. Ask about drinks policy for your chosen camp before you travel.

04 — Safety

Safety and health

Who dune bashing suits, and what to check before you book.

Is dune bashing safe?

When run by a licensed operator, yes. Vehicles should have a fitted roll cage and working seatbelts for every passenger, and drivers should be trained and licensed for desert terrain.

Is it suitable for children?

Most operators set a minimum age, and very young children are not recommended for dune bashing. Tell us the ages in your group when booking so we can advise on the right option.

Who should avoid dune bashing?

Dune bashing involves sharp turns and drops, so it is not recommended for pregnant guests or people with back, neck, or heart conditions. If you are unsure, ask before you book.

Can I get motion sick?

Some guests do. If you are prone to it, sit in the front seat, avoid a heavy meal beforehand, and let the driver know so they can adjust the intensity of the ride.

How do I know an operator is licensed?

Operators should be licensed by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DTCM). You can ask to see the licence before paying a deposit.

Is there first aid available?

A basic first aid kit should be present in the vehicle, and camp staff should know where the nearest medical support is.

05 — Special Cases

Weather and special cases

Rain, sandstorms, Ramadan, tipping, and what to wear.

What happens if it rains or there is a sandstorm?

Safaris are occasionally rescheduled for extreme weather, since dune bashing is not safe on wet or unstable sand. If your trip is affected, the operator should contact you in advance to reschedule or refund.

Can I go on a safari during Ramadan?

Safaris generally continue during Ramadan, but timing, food service, and entertainment may be adjusted. Confirm the arrangements for your date when booking.

What should I wear?

Loose, breathable clothing that covers shoulders and knees, closed flat shoes, and a light jacket for after sunset, especially from November to March. Leave heels and open sandals at the hotel.

Do I need to tip?

Tipping is not required but is appreciated for drivers and camp staff, in line with general tipping norms in Dubai.

Do I need to bring ID or documents?

Carry your phone with the booking confirmation. Bringing a copy of your passport or Emirates ID is sensible in case it is asked for.

Can I take photos and videos?

Yes. Keep your phone and camera secured during dune bashing, and use a dry bag or old phone case if you plan to sandboard.
