Two seasons, in practice
Dubai’s desert doesn’t really have four seasons — for safari planning, it comes down to a cool season and a hot season, each with its own trade-offs.
November through March. Daytime temperatures are comfortable enough that morning safaris are just as pleasant as evening ones, and camp evenings feel genuinely crisp rather than just “less hot.”
Trade-off: this is when most other visitors are booking too, so popular pickup windows fill up earlier.
April through October. Daytime heat is intense, so morning safaris start earlier and evening safaris become the more comfortable choice since most of the activity happens after sunset.
Trade-off: shorter, hotter daylight windows and a warm camp evening rather than a cool one.

Morning, evening, or overnight
Starts around sunrise. Shorter and lighter on activities — no dinner or evening show — but the dunes are quieter and the light is softer for photos. Best suited to the cooler months.
The most popular option year-round. Dune bashing lands in golden-hour light, followed by the full camp experience — dinner, shows, and activities. Works well in any season, including summer.
Everything an evening safari includes, plus staying at camp and driving back the next morning. Best in the cooler months, when sleeping outdoors is actually comfortable.
Weekday vs. weekend
The UAE weekend runs Friday–Saturday. Camps are busiest on Thursday and Friday evenings, when local families join alongside tourists — book earlier for those nights, or choose a weekday for a quieter camp atmosphere.
Visiting during Ramadan
Safaris still run during Ramadan, but timing shifts around the fast. Evening departures are typically scheduled a little later, after the sunset call to prayer (iftar), and dinner at camp is served as part of the post-fast meal. If you’re visiting during Ramadan, confirm the exact pickup time when booking, since it moves with the sunset time that month.

November to February offers the most comfortable conditions for both morning and evening safaris. If you’re visiting in summer, that’s not a reason to skip it — just plan for an evening safari instead of a morning one.
Can I still do a desert safari in summer?
Yes — evening safaris run year-round. Most of the activity happens once the sun is down or low, so summer heat mainly affects the earlier part of the drive rather than the whole trip.
Does it ever rain during a desert safari?
Rain is uncommon but does happen occasionally, mostly between December and March. Dune bashing isn’t run on wet sand, so if weather is a concern, the operator should be able to reschedule.
How far in advance should I book?
A few days ahead is usually enough outside peak season. During November–March, and especially for Thursday/Friday evening slots, booking a week or more ahead is safer.
Is sunset guaranteed to be visible during an evening safari?
